Q.01
Evaluation Processes of International Cooperation

Have the international projects of the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) achieved their objectives? Are the effects achieved sustainable and relevant for the target group?

Answers to these and other questions can be found here - on the website of the PTB Evaluation Unit.

The PTB is Germany’s national metrology institute and a scientific and technical higher federal authority within the portfolio of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE). It is responsible for the presentation and dissemination of the legal units and the maintenance of legal standards.

As the world’s second largest metrology institute with more than 100 years of experience, PTB supports the harmonization of international metrology and the establishment and expansion of a competent quality infrastructure (QI) in emerging and developing countries. These are the mains tasks of PTB’s International Cooperation group.

Our international cooperation projects are generally carried out on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The European Union also supports PTB’s development cooperation.

To promote institutional learning and transparency for the public and our clients, PTB evaluates the majority of the projects conducted. The evaluations are carried out by independent experts and published in the evaluation database on this website. As an implementing organization of development cooperation, PTB follows the criteria of the Development Assistance Committee of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD-DAC) and the BMZ. These include assessing the relevance, coherence, effectiveness, impact, efficiency and sustainability of the interventions.

A detailed description of the evaluation system of the PTB Evaluation Unit can be found in our Evaluation Policy (in German).
